You’ll find nothing ordinary about this bold and striking build by Australia’s Luke Scheepers. First, the handle: between the beautifully detailed and patinated collar and endcap of brass, Luke has shaped a single piece of brushed, 6061 aluminum into his comfortable and handsome wa-style, decagonal handle form, ten-sided in the rear before tapering forward for control in any grip. The texture and feel of the hollow aluminum in the hand is one not soon forgotten. And then, the business end of this one-of-a-kind tool: in stainless-clad V-Toku2 carbon steel with dark etch to highlight the edge and add contrast, Luke has crafted a nicely sized, utilitarian slicing blade with a subtle curve to the edge profile for versatility, and his ‘brain coral’ texturing along the stainless flats above. Quite thin at the edge with subtly convex geometry through the silky, hand-sanded satin bevels above, this chef’s knife is perfect for slicing tasks of all variety, from sashimi preparation to delicate and detailed vegetable processing. Razor-thin at the pointed tip, stiff along the rounded spine, and balanced in the hand, this is a tool to use daily and pass down through the generations.
