Austrian artist Tobias Hangler’s contribution to The Art of Cutlery, a chef knife named “Bauhaus,” on show during summer 2024 in Tribeca, NYC, combines a futuristic 3D-printed stainless steel handle paired with a stainless damascus-clad blade with a core steel that Tobias, who holds a master’s degree in metallurgy, helped develop from the ground up specifically for use in high-performance culinary blades. The small-batch stainless damascus was re-forged by the artist to produce a unique and captivating visual effect, then layered atop a vein of pure nickel, and finally, the the tungsten-carbon core steel that features a dark, contrasting finish. The handle was designed by Tobias and 3D printed using SLM (Selective Laser Melting) to produce a unique, minimalistic, and comfortable grip. This one-of-a-kind knife is razor-sharp and built to cook with.
