Exquisite, handmade heat-tolerant glass products from Noto, Japan.
A beautiful set for any sake (nihonshu) enthusiast, includes 2 cups and a carafe in a traditional kiri box.
We were introduced to Notojima Glass Studios on a trip to visit traditional craftspeople in Ishikawa prefecture.
Notojima Glass was founded 40 years ago in an effort to revitalize the local economy, as young people were moving to the big cities. Notojima is a small 18 square mile island off the coast of Ishikawa prefecture, surrounded on all sides by the Sea of Japan. The population loss led to several abandoned school buildings, and the glass craftspeople took one of them and transformed it into a glass studio.
These are heat resistant and can tolerate boiling water as well as being microwaved. Do not put in dish washer.
Each product has small differences due to their handmade nature.
